BMR Calculator
Calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) to find out exactly how many calories your body naturally burns at rest every day.
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body needs to accomplish its most basic (basal) life-sustaining functions. These basal functions include circulation, breathing, cell production, nutrient processing, protein synthesis, and ion transport.
How we calculate it
We use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is widely considered by health and fitness professionals to be the most accurate BMR formula available today. It takes into account your gender, age, height, and weight.
BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) + 5
BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) - 161
BMR vs TDEE
Your BMR is only the baseline of your calorie burn. Any physical activity you do—from walking to the kitchen, to running a marathon—burns additional calories on top of your BMR. When you multiply your BMR by your physical activity level, you get your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).
