Understanding SIPs
A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is a method of investing a fixed sum of money regularly (usually monthly) into a mutual fund, ETF, or stock index.
Why are SIPs so powerful?
By investing small amounts consistently over long periods, you harness two extremely powerful financial concepts:
- Compound Interest: Every month your balance grows, and every subsequent month you earn interest on both your principal and the previously earned interest. The growth curve starts slow but skyrockets in the later years.
- Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA): By investing a fixed amount every month regardless of what the market is doing, you automatically buy more shares when prices are low and fewer shares when prices are high. This removes the stress of trying to "time the market."
